Intent

Art and Design

When a child leaves this school, they will have had an opportunity to experience a wide range of artistic styles and media. They should know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. They should understand the intrinsic links with Maths and be able to evaluate and analyse creative works. To know about a variety of great artists, craft makers and designers. To evaluate their work using opinion, evidence and justification. To have the confidence to experiment in their art and have a positive attitude to their artistic development.

 

Design Technology

When a child leaves this school, we want them to use creativity and imagination to design and make products within a variety of contexts. Pupils can learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design technology they will develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. They will develop resilience to work through problems to find solutions. They will learn basic cooking techniques and understand that this is a crucial life skill. They will know how to prepare a healthy and varied diet and know where food comes from.

 

Implementation 

Each class has a timetabled session for art and design. Planning ensures that the children experience a variety of mediums and are introduced to a variety of artists. Where possible, sessions will be linked to topic themes to provide greater links and the opportunity to build upon and reinforce  existing
