Life during lockdown – and beyond
We understand that many people are feeling stressed and uncertain, not only about what’s happening right now but what the next few months will look like. However there are practical steps you can take, and specific parenting tips and strategies to help you and your kids stay calm and optimistic. A free parenting guide has been created by internationally recognised parenting experts Professor Matt Sanders, Dr Vanessa Cobham and Dr Claire Halsey from the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program®. Tips include how to be a positive parent while managing financial stress, home-schooling, working from home, as well as helping your child cope with their feelings and stay emotionally resilient.

The Solihull Online offer of 4 evidence-based programmes covering ante-natal/understanding your baby/understanding your child/the teenage brain is available free to all Suffolk residents to register on these courses, starting by going to the website www.inourplace.co.uk   access code WOLSEY.

Oak National Academy

Oak National Academy is a new collection of high-quality lessons and online resources. Backed by the Government, it has been created in response to the coronavirus lockdown.

Oak National Academy online classroom offers free access to great teachers, delivering video lessons, quizzes and worksheets. Available for both primary and secondary levels, it covers a range of subjects. All of the lessons are ordered so your child can learn along a clear plan. New lessons and resources will be provided each week.

Bitesize Daily Lessons

The new online Bitesize Daily Lessons in Maths, English and other subjects covers every year group up to the age of 15. Created in collaboration with teachers and other education experts, the resource is easy to navigate, and combines the best of Bitesize, BBC Teach and other education providers.

The lessons include videos, educational games, articles and practice tests. There is advice for parents or guardians on how to teach anyone who is home-schooling as well as guides for pupils with special educational needs (SEN).

And if you want even more, BBC Sounds will also be releasing daily 10-minute podcasts aimed at primary and secondary pupils to support their learning at home.

Government Online Education Resources for Home Education

Mr Cole Sing Along

Mr Cole, our wonderful music teacher, has kindly provided the school with a sing along lesson. 'Times Like These' sung originally by the Foo Fighters has some perfect lyrics which are relevant to the time we are currently in. Please click the link and enjoy a guitar sing along with Mr Cole.

This week's song has been written by Mr Cole's daughter, Isobel. The song has been written to encourage more nature into our cities and around our homes!

This week we have a real musical treat, a Dr Seuss Rapalong. Mr Cole was inspired to produced this rap following planning some work for Year 6 children. I hope you enjoy it!

Supporting the Community

During these uncertain times it has been lovely to see how the pupils at Norton are caring for people in their community and carrying out acts of kindness. We are so proud of what you are doing. Keeping Fit at Home

Exercise is so important and we are fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the country where we can go out for walks, bike rides and runs. If you are looking for other activities to do then please find below links to websites which provide other suggestions on how you can stay active.

 

Sportshall Athletics Home Pentathlon

The Home Pentathlon is a fun way for families to take part in adapted Sportshall Athletics events within their home environment. VE Day Resources 

As a school, we had planned a week of activities to celebrate VE Day. Unfortunately due to the coronovirus it is not only the school's celebrations, but the nations plans that have had to change dramatically. However it does not mean that we cannot recognise and celebrate this special day. Below please find links and resources to share as a family, I have separated the resources into Key Stage 1 and 2 for appropriate content. I have also provide a link to the Royal British Legion.
