PE and Sport Premium

Schools have a central role to play in supporting all children and young people to live healthy active lives. This is particularly true of primary school where the foundations of positive and enjoyable participation in regular physical activity should be established.

To achieve this, we ensure that our children have access to at least 30 minutes of physical activity during the school day, alongside high-quality PE provision and opportunities to experience and participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities. We use our PE and sport premium grant funding to achieve these aims, by securing improvements in the following 5 key indicators:

  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  • Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
  • The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and physical activities offered to all pupils.
  • Increased participation in competitive sport.

Here is how funding was spent in the past three years and how we propose to spend it in 2025-26

We are also required to show evidence of how the sport premium impacts pupils in terms of teaching, competitions and the activities they are offered.

We are required to publish how many pupils within our year 6 cohort can do each of the following:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

At Norton, our children go swimming in Year 4 so the data we receive is based on what was observed during this time. Percentages based on our Year 6 pupils (2024-25) are as follows:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres - 76%
  • use a range of strokes effectively - 48%
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations - 59%
