Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
On Tuesday 27 June Star Class went on their first school trip to Lackford Lakes. The trip was planned as part of their Minibeast Topic and Lackford Lakes was the perfect place to explore for minibeasts under stones, on leaves and under wood. The children had a wonderful day doing many exciting activities.
Our Year 6 pupils had a great afternoon at the Crucial Crew, taking part in a range of workshops designed to help us be safe in a range of scenarios and maintain a healthy, positive and engaged approach to everything from environmental issues to our mental health. For many, the highlight was being rescued from a ‘burning’ building by the fire service!
We were, as always, complimented by staff on our great behaviour and participation…
On Friday 23 June, Meteor Class had an amazing day at Thorpe Woodlands. The children all had the opportunity to be Bold Adverturers as they were challenged to try new sporitng activities, go on the high ropes and work together as a team. All of the children showed real courage and perseverance and pushed themselves to achieve things they never thought they would!
The sun was shining, the glow sticks were dazzling and Norton School danced the day away. Friday 16 March was such a special day and there was a real sense of joy and purpose to the day as the school raised money for the following charities: Cancer Research, Young Lives V Cancer and Cyclist for Cancer. These charities were selected by Georgia and Evie as they have provided supported and advice during their treatment. Thank you everyone for supporting us, for getting sponsors and coming along at the end of the day to join in with the dancing. It was lovely to see Evie join us at the end of the day to dance with her friends and we received a special picture of Georgia ringing the bell after her last chemotherapy session. We raised £4,700 and it was just Norton's way of saying thank you to these charities for helping our school community.
Each half term we plan for the children to experience a sporting activity which they have never tried before. This half term the sport was karate. All the children enjoyed their enrichment session with our instructors from Verve Martial Arts!
All classes were involved in a languages afternoon to celebrate and experience bits of French culture! The children played boules, named colours, played lotto, gave beebots directions through a French town, painted the tricolore flag in the pointillist style of Georges Seurat and went to a French café to taste cheese and bread!
This week all the pupils at Norton had the opportunity to 'Experience Pentecost' at St Andrew's Church. The experience allowed the children to gain a fuller understanding of the significance of Pentecost, the festival celebrated fifty days after Easter: central to this festival is the work of the Holy Spirit. In groups, the children visited six stations, set up around the church, each providing an interactive, multi-sensory way to engage children imaginatively with the events surrounding Pentecost. The six stations were:
Organised by Revd Katherine and Mrs Harris, and manned by a team of volunteers from the local churches, this was a really engaging workshop enjoyed by all. Needless to say, the children’s learning behaviour and contributions were excellent.
We had a great time celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III which takes place tomorrow! We enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch in the hall, before spending the afternoon doing a range of creative activities. These activities included making union flags, decorating cookies and crowns, learning about what will happen during the Coronation ceremony and crafting 3-D cutaways of Westminster Abbey. We rounded off the afternoon by receiving our commemorative mugs from Mr Aket and Mr Lenko on behalf of the Parish Council, before everyone gathered in the hall for the national anthem.
A great day was had by all and hopefully memories created!
Key Stage 2 Easter Service
The Key Stage 2 children went to St Andrew's church in Norton yesterday for our Easter service. The children shared the Easter Patchwork poem brilliantly and sang out beautifully accompanied by Mrs Cole on his guitar.
It was wonderful to welcome Rev Katherine back from her travels in the Holy Lands.
The children really enjoyed the STEM Festival at Thurston Community College last week. The children took part in a number of science activities which allowed them to predict and explain experiments. Here are a few photos from the trip.
