At Norton Primary School, our aim is for children to develop skills within listening, singing, composing and performing. Children develop a respect of different music traditions in a range of cultures, genres and eras. They are encouraged to evaluate and appraise a variety of music and use this to create their own compositions. This gives children the opportunity and belief in their music ability, in which they can build on in KS3.
All classes have at least a 30 min music lesson each week. EYFS, Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y6 have a specialist music teacher teaching them. Y5 have whole class clarinet lesson. Children listen and respond to different styles of music from a range of cultures and traditions. They create their own compositions and develop ways to record their work. Pupils have access to a range of musical instruments and technology to enhance their skills.
